How this tracker works: Every rumour below carries a confidence badge — Confirmed (Samsung official, leaked filings, or two+ independent tier-1 sources), Likely (one tier-1 source or multiple tier-2), Speculative (single source, weak corroboration), Wishlist (analyst opinion or community speculation, no leak basis). Sources cited inline. Last updated 30 May 2026.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 leaks have been arriving in clusters since February. Most are real; some are recycled; a few are wishful thinking dressed up as supply-chain confirmation. This tracker sorts them.

🟢 Confirmed

Verified by Samsung filings, official statements, or two-plus independent tier-1 sources.

🟢 Confirmed · Launch event

Galaxy Unpacked: 22 July 2026, London

Samsung's mid-year Unpacked is set for 22 July 2026 in London, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 as the headline announcement alongside the Z Flip 8 and a separate "Galaxy Z Wide Fold" tier. Pre-orders open the same day; retail shipments roughly two weeks later, putting the Z Fold 8 on shelves by early August 2026. Source: PhoneArena, Tech Advisor, SamMobile — all corroborating from independent supply-chain sources.

🟢 Confirmed · Pricing

$1,999 / $2,199 / $2,499 across 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB

US RRP holds at $1,999 for the 256GB base, with $2,199 for 512GB and $2,499 for the 1TB top tier — flat versus Z Fold 7 launch pricing. Multiple supply-chain sources align on this; Samsung has not yet sourced a price hike despite the new metal hinge architecture (below). Expect AU pricing to track at roughly A$3,099 / A$3,399 / A$3,799 based on Z Fold 7 conversion patterns. Source: PhoneArena, Tech Advisor, Digit, SamMobile.

The Z Fold 7 case lineup (pictured) is what most pre-Unpacked buyers are still carrying. Most of these moulds will need re-cutting for the Z Fold 8's chassis changes — see the design section below.

🟡 Likely

One tier-1 source or multiple tier-2 sources. Reasonable confidence, not confirmed.

🟡 Likely · Main display

8-inch inner display, 120Hz, 2,600 nits peak

A grown-up 8-inch main display (up from 7.6" on the Z Fold 7) with 120Hz refresh and up to 2,600 nits of peak brightness. The brightness step is the bigger story — that's a 30% jump over the Z Fold 7's 1,750-nit panel and brings the inner display in line with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. 🟡 Likely · Cover display

6.5-inch FlexWindow, 120Hz

A 6.5" cover display (also 120Hz) — roughly 5% larger than the Z Fold 7's 6.3" FlexWindow. Marginal as an upgrade, but it shifts the aspect ratio closer to a normal candybar phone, which makes one-handed use without unfolding more practical. Source: Tech Advisor, SamMobile.

🟡 Likely · Crease engineering

Laser-drilled metal support plate, ~20% less visible crease

A redesigned laser-drilled metal support plate distributes folding stress more evenly across the crease zone. Samsung Display's own engineering note claims roughly a 20% reduction in crease depth and visibility versus the Z Fold 7 panel. If true, this is the most material design upgrade in the lineup — the visible crease has been the loudest complaint since the Z Fold 3. Source: Samsung Display brief (referenced in PhoneArena, SamMobile).

🟡 Likely · Processor

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 — Qualcomm's 2026 flagship — paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. No Exynos rumours this cycle; expect a single global SKU. Source: PhoneArena, Tech Advisor, Digit.

Most leaked specifications come down to small millimetre-level chassis changes that case designers have to remould the entire SKU around. We measure each new Samsung foldable like this within hours of teardown.

🔵 Speculative

Single sources or weak corroboration. Could go either way at Unpacked.

🔵 Speculative · Main camera

200MP main sensor (up from 50MP on Z Fold 7)

A jump to a 200MP main camera paired with a 50MP ultrawide and 10MP 3x telephoto. The 200MP claim has appeared in two independent leak chains but Samsung historically reserves 200MP for the S Ultra line — putting it on a foldable would be a notable strategic shift. We rate this 60/40 toward arrival. Source: Tech Advisor, Digit (single supply-chain origin).

🔵 Speculative · Battery and charging

5,000mAh, 45W wired

A jump from the Z Fold 7's 4,400mAh to a 5,000mAh battery and a 45W wired fast-charging spec (up from 25W). The capacity bump is plausible — silicon-anode batteries are mature enough to deliver this without increasing the closed thickness — but a 45W charging spec would be Samsung's first on a Z Fold and the source is single-origin. Source: Digit.

🔵 Speculative · "Galaxy Z Wide Fold" tier

A third foldable tier above the Z Fold 8

Multiple references in the leak stream mention a separate Galaxy Z Wide Fold launching alongside the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 — positioned as an Ultra-tier foldable. Naming is consistent across sources but the actual differentiation (wider aspect ratio? larger inner display? higher RAM ceiling?) is not. We're confident a third tier is happening; we're not confident on what it is. Source: SamMobile, the-gadgeteer.

🟣 Wishlist

No genuine leak basis. Community speculation, analyst opinion, or persistent rumours that haven't materialised in three generations.

🟣 Wishlist · S-Pen support

S-Pen return after the Z Fold 7 removal

Samsung removed S-Pen support on the Z Fold 7 (covered in our Z Fold S-Pen guide) for thinness reasons. Rumours of a return on the Z Fold 8 keep recirculating but no supply-chain source we trust has confirmed a digitiser layer is back in the panel stack. We rate this unlikely; the thinness story Samsung told for the Z Fold 7 hasn't changed. Source: TechRadar opinion piece, no supply-chain backing.

🟣 Wishlist · Built-in S-Pen silo

An integrated pen storage slot like the Note line

No Galaxy Z Fold has ever had built-in pen storage. The closed-thickness budget on a foldable doesn't accommodate the silo geometry of the Note / S Ultra line. We have zero confidence this changes on the Z Fold 8 — it would require a fundamentally different hinge architecture.

🟣 Wishlist · True under-display camera

A genuinely invisible inner-display selfie camera

The Z Fold 5/6/7 used under-display cameras that were visibly meshy when the panel was lit. Persistent rumours of a "true UDC" on the Z Fold 8 haven't matched the supply chain — current panel suppliers are still shipping the same pixel-density mask layer. Probable status quo on this front.

Should you wait for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 — or buy a Z Fold 7 now?

This is the only question most readers are actually asking. Here's our honest read.

If you... Wait or buy now?
Are on a Z Fold 7 already Skip the Z Fold 8. The crease improvement is real but every other change is incremental. Wait for Z Fold 9.
Are on a Z Fold 5 or 6 Wait. The crease engineering alone is worth the 7-week wait if it lands as claimed.
Carry the S-Pen daily Buy a Z Fold 6 immediately. Active S-Pen support is unlikely on the Z Fold 8; the Z Fold 6 stays the most stylus-capable Galaxy foldable in market.
Need a foldable in the next four weeks Buy the Z Fold 7. By the time you've enjoyed it for two months, the Z Fold 8 will be three months from launch — a normal cadence.
Have a Z Fold 7 case lineup you love Wait — your cases probably won't fit. Even if outer dimensions stay similar, our case-design experience says any chassis change ≥1mm requires a fresh mould per case.
Are buying your first foldable Wait 7 weeks. Eighteen months of pricing parity is unusual; the Z Fold 8 at the same RRP is the better entry point if you can wait.

What we'll be watching at Unpacked

Three specific things, in priority order:

  1. Whether the crease claim ships as promised. Samsung has been touting better creases for three generations; this is the first cycle with a supply-chain-corroborated engineering story (the laser-drilled support plate). If you can see the crease less in hands-on coverage from Unpacked, the rumour was real.
  2. Whether the "Wide Fold" is a new form factor or just a marketing tier. If it's a wider aspect ratio, that opens new use cases (and new case categories for us). If it's just "Z Fold 8 Ultra" with more RAM, it's a pricing move, not a product one.
  3. Whether the S-Pen returns. Almost certainly no, but if Samsung surprises here, every accessory maker in the foldable space has work to do.

We'll update this tracker within 24 hours of Unpacked. If you're trying to make a buy/wait decision in the next four weeks, bookmark this page.
